I have been taking a training on Articulate Storyline 360. I can't upload the whole silly sample training I've been working on (the text is just ipsum with random graphics), but here are a few screenshots.

Old Europe 2017 Blog Post

This is another post from my personal blog about travels in Europe...  Europe 2017 Where to even begin..  We have just gotten back from our three week Europe trip and I woke up at 4AM, unable to sleep anymore. The cats are wanting all kinds of attention, particularly Eve, who won't even leave me along when I'm trying to sleep. All night. They are obviously happy we're back. The Netherlands Amsterdam is still as lovely a city as I remember it being 12 years ago. Biking along the canals and beautiful old buildings was enjoyable, as were the cafes. The Windmill Windup tournament was amazing. It was incredibly well-organized. They had a giant central circus tent set-up, which served as a main location for info, food, music performances, and chill-out time; then everyone else camps in their smaller tents. There were lots of "extras" too, that you wouldn't see at a normal tournament. There were three big trampolines, a bouldering twister shipping crate, a karaoke ...

Another Old Blog Post Writing Sample - Travel/Ultimate Frisbee Experience in Australia

Image
This is just another blog post sample. This was from a personal blog I kept while we lived abroad in Australia for several years.   Tuesday, October 21, 2014 Australian Mixed Nationals, Castle Hill, and Magnetic Island We went up to Townsville for Australian Mixed Nationals this past weekend. Our team broke seed and came in 4th in the tournament. The highlight of the weekend was  this picture  taken of our teammate, Zac. This picture immediately went viral on facebook and now reddit, at least in the ultimate frisbee community, spawning re-enactment photos and a photoshop battle. Some of my photoshop favorites are the  violin player , the  inept translator , and  jazz hands . We can now say we have been present moment a meme came to life. Zac was even publicly recognized during the awards ceremony at the end of the tournament. Our team, warming up with  Castle Hill  in the background:  We were able to pay a short visit to the hill,  ...

Writing Sample (Older Blog Post)

Old blog writing sample from personal blog posted in Nov. 2016 about a professional topic... On Behavior Management (aka Subtle Manipulation) The number of people I know who are parents continues to grow and grow. I do not have my own kids, but I have worked with kids for about 19 year at this point... damn, that makes me sound so old. Anyway, all parents get stressed out from time to time, but some seem to be stressed out more of the time than others. I just thought I would share a few helpful tips I have learned over the years dealing with kids from about age 2 and up, in the hopes that they might help some parents to lead less-stressed lives (at least in regards to their kids' learned behaviours). These are not uniquely my ideas; they are from other people I know who have also had decades of experience with kids, and also I have used them and I find they work.  1. The ratio of positive interactions you have with your kids to negative interactions should be about 5:1....

Kombucha... a low tech hobby.

Some many of my projects showcased here on the blog show my professional skills. This is just one of my hobbies: home-brewing kombucha. I've been using the same SCOBY (or descendants of it) for four years and counting. Here is a simple recipe if you'd like to try.

Sample Kindergarten Lesson Plan: "Kekoa and the Mystery Egg" and Making Predictions

Lesson Objective: Readers will make ongoing predictions based on graphics and text. Materials: Kekoa and the Mystery Egg by Tia Monteaux Walls, paper or mini whiteboard, something to write with Connect: Show prediction picture to whole group and have children turn and tell their neighbor what they think will happen next and why. (x2, if time) Have one or two share with the group. Ask them to describe their thinking or point out the clues they used in the picture. Teach: “Today, I am going to teach you how to make good predictions because careful readers are always thinking about what will happen next in their books.  Write the word prediction on the board. “A prediction is when someone looks at clues and tries to figure out what will happen next. Watch how I do this as we read a story together”. Start reading Kekoa and the Mystery Egg by Tia Monteaux Walls. Demonstrate: Read aloud the story and stop several predetermined times to think aloud about what will happen nex...
